Shipping overseas
Locum Services has extensive experience in shipping new vehicles from factories and ports to dealers. Working for various vehicle manufacturers, our staff managed the transport, handling, storage and technical modifications of millions of automobiles. Transportation of valuable vehicles requires maintaining the right balance between safety, quality, costs and time. Automotive companies employ significant resources to manage this properly and Locum Services can offer the same high quality transportation services to private customers, dealers and vehicle traders.
Shipping cars by RoRo vessels
Where vehicles have to cross seas to reach their destinations, shipping by RoRo is the most popular transportation method. Almost all new vehicles are shipped RoRo with dedicated Car Carrier vessels. Amongst experts it is considered saver to load and unload vehicles onto specialized Car Carrier vessels versus loading vehicles into ocean containers. This method minimizes the risk of damages to the vehicles. We work together with the leading car carriers and shipping lines who are also contracted by top automotive companies to ship their new vehicles. This ensures that the personnel that will be handling your vehicles are trained to very high standards. The shipping and handling costs using RoRo are very competitive because the vehicles are being driven on and off the vessels and the vessels can carry large amounts of vehicles. The vessels are completely closed so no elements can reach the vehicles loaded inside the vessels.
The experience and the processes we apply put Locum Services in a position to maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction and offering competitive rates at the same time.
We can ship many or just one vehicle in the same competitive and fast way. A typical shipment from the US East coat to Europe will only take 20-22 days from time it is delivered to the port of export until it is ready to be picked up in Europe. We do not need to wait for more vehicles to make an efficient load.
Shipping vehicles in sea container
In certain cases it is necessary to ship vehicles in sea container. There are many providers that offer shipping vehicles in container, but there are very few that would meet the quality requirements of automotive manufacturers.
The container interior dimensions (e.g. 40 feet) are 2,35 m wide and 12 m long. To make the shipping economically viable 3, or better 4 vehicles need to be loaded in one container. This can be only achieved by stacking the vehicles on top often using forklifts, wooden structures or even hang the cars up on chains. Due to the restricted width in container most vehicles can only be entered and exited through the window once parked inside the container. Eventually the empty space in containers is filled with general cargo.
Locum Services utilizes a special car loading system to overcome the critical loading, unloading and securing of vehicles in sea container. This very same system is used by leading car manufacturers to ship their new vehicles where RoRo services are not available. Vehicles are driven on and secured on a specialized shipping rack outside the container. With forklifts these racks are loaded into the container – needles to say without touching the vehicles.
And once loaded inside the container vehicles are save and can be shipped easily to almost every destination.
